The Meridian Elementary Art Appreciation Program is looking for volunteer art docents to teach monthly art lessons in the classroom.
No previous teaching or art experience is necessary, as training, lessons, and project ideas are provided. This is a fantastic opportunity to get into your child’s classroom and get to know the students and teacher better. the kids absolutely LOVE art day!
The time commitment is about 2-4 hours per month (depending on your class’ schedule-anywhere from 45-90 minutes are spent with the students-the rest is preparing the lesson and supplies and matting the artwork for display), plus approximately 8 hours combined for setting up, working at, and taking down art for the Art Walk in May (this is spread out over a more than a week). You and your child’s teacher arrange a mutually agreeable time and day to do art each month.
Art docent training is provided through the Interurban Center for the Arts at Green River College. Meridian’s Art Appreciation Program is funded and operated by the Meridian Elementary PTSA.
Art lessons start in September, so sign up soon! Both lead docents and assistants are welcome!
Volunteer registration is required through the Kent School District website. You will need to upload copies of your current ID at https://volunteer.kent.k12.wa.us
