Do you have a child who is talented in dancing, writing, photography, or visual art? Check out the PTA Art Recognition Program! 2024-2025 Submissions are due November 18 2024. Contact Tammie at ttreibley@gmail.com for questions.
What is Reflections?
Reflections is a National PTA arts recognition program that helps students explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence, and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful not only in school, but in life. Students in pre-K through grade 12 create original works of art from 1 of 6 categories in response to a theme.
2024-2025 Reflections Theme:
This years theme is “Accepting Imperfection” Its a reminder that there is so much beauty around us all the time. We want our students to be able to see it and express it.
Submission Categories:
This year our school will be offering 4 of the submission categories to choose from – Dance, Literature, Photography and Visual Arts. There is also an Accessible Arts division, this is an option for students who identify as having a disability and may receive services under IDEA or ADA.
Click for the Guidelines on each category:
Visual Arts/Artistes Visuales ~ architecture (2D/3D), carpentry, ceramics, collages, collages, computer-generated image, crafts, design, dioramas, drawing, fiber work, jewelry, kites, metal etching/punch work, mobiles, painting, printmaking, sculpture and wind chimes
Dance/Coreografía de Danza ~originally choreographed dance composition.
Literature /La LITERATURA ~ works of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, prose, drama, short stories and lyrics.
Photography/Fotografía ~color or black and white, included techniques: photogram, negative sandwich, and multiple exposure.
How To Submit An Entry:
Download the entry form below. Make sure to complete the Artist Statement on the forms, this must be filled out by the student. Parents may help younger children with writing, but the words/ideas must be from the student. Names should be on the back of any physical work, never on the front. If submitting a video, like for cerography, please do not include the students name in the video. This way voting can be as anonymous as possible.
Submit your child’s Reflections Submission (with entry form) to the PTA Mailbox (near the front office) or email Tammie at ttreibley@gmail.com by November 18 2024.
Awards
Students who submit their entries will have their submissions judged* by a group of Meridian teachers, PTA members, and staff. If they have the highest score for their category, they will move onto the next round of judging at the district level by the Kent Area Council PTA. From there, if they advance through that level of judging they can go to state level and possibly national.
*If you are interested in being a Meridian judge, please contact Tammie at ttreibley@gmail.com
No Art Supplies?
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to Meridian PTA ASAP and we will do our best to help your artist get the supplies they need. We want to see all students participate who are interested!
